Grammy-winning Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman suffered an unthinkable tragedy Wednesday when his 5-year-old daughter was killed in an accident involving her brother.I first heard this story from my dad and, as you can see, it's absolutely devastating. Not only did her brother accidentally hit his younger sister, but the accident occurred only hours away from one of their sons' graduation from high school.
Chapman's youngest daughter, Maria Sue, was hit in the driveway of her family's Franklin, Tenn., home by an SUV driven by her teenage brother, the Associated Press reports. The brother, whose name was not released, apparently did not see the girl.
I can't imagine the grief going through that family—especially of the parents and the older brother. It's just terrible... when my dad heard it, he cried and my father rarely cries, so... it's just a terrible tragedy. If it's not too much trouble, I'd like to ask those of you Christians reading this to pray for him and his family, because he's going to need it. If you're not a Christian, please just keep him in your thoughts. I think that they need as much good will and guidance as they can, so just a few minutes spared to think of him will make quite a difference.
I'm definitely going to pray for him, because I can't imagine that sort of tragedy and the Chapman family is definitely going to need it.
